This species is relatively peaceful compared to other Apistogramma species. I would suggest a 15 gallon aquarium for a pair. They prefer soft, acidic water and require caves for spawning. Despite their fairly calm temperaments, dither fish should be housed with this species. Small schooling fish such as ember tetras and dwarf pencilfish work well for this. The fish available for sale are about 1″ in length.
